A few thoughts that stood out from the first chapter:
“Your home did not get dirty in a day and it is not going to get clean overnight”
“It all starts with a shiny sink.”
Baby steps!
The “Shiny sink” philosophy is that if your sink is shining before you go to bed each night, it will greet you in the morning and cause you to smile.
It is the first baby step of many to changing habits that keep you living in CHAOS (defined in Chapter 2). It is something to be proud of, and it is a place to start. Cilley goes into detail about this, and even gives tips for keeping the sink clean and countertops free of dish-related clutter.
Chapter 1 also points out the work mindset created when you’re dressed for the day, down to the shoes, as opposed having the mindset associated with pjs â tiredness and getting off your feet.
Being dressed down to the shoes prepares for anything from unexpected guests (no more need to apologize for being in your pjs or hiding from the neighbors when they come to the door) to taking out the trash.
